2013 was the first launch of the Materialpreis by the materials library raumPROBE in Stuttgart. Under the motto "materials have many faces and stories" material producers, suppliers and other creative people were invited to submit their materials. In the short span of two months, more than 70 materials were submitted. There were six different categories to choose from - innovation, design, ecology, process, collection and studies. I was invited to be part of the Jury and to select the winning materials.
After years of ordering materials samples from manufacturers, a huge collection grew and designaffairs GmbH decided to turn it into a materials library, accompanied by a search engine. This Materials Library is a unique and innovative way to showcase new materials and technologies. It invites and enables you to open your ideas at the intersection of analogue materials and digital media. With an ever growing collection of 1,800 unique materials and over 6,000 different samples, it caters for material researches, material workshops and events – all aiming to raise the awareness of innovative and creative material implementations.
