With the opening of the Schaudepot, the Vitra Design Museum greatly expanded its exhibition space.
The museum building by Frank Gehry will continue to be used for the large-scale temporary exhibitions and the Vitra Design Museum Gallery will show smaller, experimental projects, while the Schaudepot will display the permanent exhibition as well as one temporary exhibition. The Schaudepot will be one of the world’s largest permanent exhibitions and research facilities on modern furniture design. The Schaudepot Lab, Level -1 of the building, holds a collection of materials and examples of processing technologies that explains what furniture, as well as products, are made of. materialscout, together with seven additional materials libraries, research institutes and consultancies, was asked to contribute to this permanent collection.
